Banco de Gaia |
Banco de Gaia is an electronic music outfit from England, formed by Toby Marks (born 1964) in 1991. Marks was born in South London and was educated at an old fashioned boy's school. In 1978 he began his musical career, as a drummer in a heavy metal band.
Marks moved to Portugal in 1986, and played Beatles music for tourists. He first delved into electronic music in 1989, when he bought a digital sampler. The first tune he recorded on it was called "Maxwell House".
The music of Banco de Gaia is probably best categorized as ambient dub, but Marks works hard to cross genres, often using Arabic and Middle Eastern samples against a bass-heavy reggae, rock, or trance rhythm to produce deeply textured tracks that progress layer upon layer.

Burmese Spinning Gongs |
Also known as the Kyeezee or Burma Bell this traditional bronze instrument from the temples of Burma, is played by holding the gong by the string and hitting one corner of the gong with the beater, causing it to spin. This creates an unusual pulsing sound.
Cajons |
Cajón is the symbolic instrument of the black Peruvian community. Like many other South American percussion instruments the Cajon is a substitute for African drums, usually prohibited to the slaves brought to the New World.
The name describes what it is: a big box. It is said that the first cajons were the boxes of the fruit pickers of the coast region.
Also in Cuba, where the cajón exists and is played in certain styles of Rumba: the legend has it that fish crates were played as percussion.
Since then, the Cajón has been improved, until it got the conventional shape and construction that you see today.
The Cajón is played sitting on top of it, striking the front face. On the top side, the sound is sharp and high, while the centre gives a bass tone.
Mixing these different sounds with a wise dynamic playing gives a very effective and versatile way to play many styles of music.
Apart from its natural place, it can be used in virtually any acoustic setting, and with an adequate amplification, it suits even electronic music like Drum'n'bass. The similarity to a drumkit is quite impressive, and is also a lot lighter to carry around with a weight of 3kg.!
It can be used by Conga and Darbouka players, as well as drummers, replacing the stool and enlarging the sound range of multi percussionist.

Dance |
Dance |
Dancing Helix |
Dancing Helix is an amazing discovery. When slowly rotating it naturally take the form of a helix. Then when any rib is touched, it propagates the impulse as a wave moving through the mobile. After playing out its energy the wave is then absorbed back into the helical form. The quality of how the rib is moved is reflected back in the quality of the wave.
Dancing Helix has a central spine made from a thin strip of neoprene, a rubbery material. It has thin wire ribs that are attached perpendicular to the spine. Each rib ends in a bead. It has a weight at the bottom to create tension on the spine. And it is suspended from the ceiling, attached to an intermittent rotating motor for the most complexity in its dance.
Dancing Helix reveals the pattern that is archetypical to all life, the wave. In watching it's dance, like watching the waves where ocean meets shore or the turbulence of a mountain stream, we are both relaxed and refreshed.

During the Seventies and Eighties, Deuter traveled extensively in Asia in search of spiritual and creative inspiration, settling for long periods of time in Pune, India, where he took on the spiritual name Chaitanya Hari and became a sannyasin or student of the controversial spiritual teacher Bhagwan, who later changed his name into Osho.

Fragrances |
From The Scent Capitals Of The World: Tunis, Lahore, Delhi, Egypt, Africa, Arabia, Sudan, Attar Bazaar natural fragrances are elegant and exceedingly rich scents. Not simply random mixtures of "essential oils," attar fragrances are a specific type of natural, 100% alcohol-free perfume oil. The beauty of using attar oils is that by wearing them you create an aura of tranquility, confidence and mystery around yourself. Because attars contain no alcohol, the scent "clings" within one or two feet of your body, in the "zone of intimacy."
These attars are the very same fragrances used by the women and men of the East for centuries to create a spiritual beauty. These elegant aromas are traced directly to the ancient healers and prophets, who used fragrant oils to enhance moods, adjust emotions and uplift the soul. In fact, the quality of these scents is so uncommon; many people will stop you to ask, "What are you wearing"? and frequently compliment you on how lovely your perfume is. Each glass phial contains 3.75 ml of high quality attar oil.

Hans Cousto Tuning Forks |
With a mathematic formula the rotary cycles of the planets, the sun and the moon can be converted into audible sounds. In 1978, the physician and mathematician, Hans Cousto, discovered this technique which had been derived from the rule of octaves. Thus he named it “Cosmic Octave.” Cousto created the basics for the individual work with planetary sounds, which nowadays can be found in numerous therapeutic techniques and in the self-healing and self-experiencing work of many people.(Please check out his book in our Books section)
Tuning forks are used in order to always have the planetary frequencies available in high precision. The tuning forks which we offer here are manufactured in the oldest German special workshop for Tuning Forks (Barthelmes in Thüringen). They are made of high-grade nickel plated steel and are of excellent quality and exactness. On every tuning fork there is engraved the frequency and the name of the sound.
There are different methods of working with frequencies;for activating chakras, meridians, organs, or acupuncture points the tuning forks can be held directly on the appropriate point – with often astonishing effects on the emotions and health. The frequencies also unfold their effect if the vibrations are fanned through the aura.
These high quality tuning forks are available in 22 different frequencies from stock. We also have some stock of larger versions of these tuning forks, which are louder and have a longer sustain. In addition there are six other more obscure frequencies available, please ask us for further details.

He graduated as a composer from Sydney University, Australia and spent several successful years in commercial music, working with bands like INXS and Midnight Oil and writing jingles for Saatchi and Saatchi and the Coca-Cola Company.
No other composer has set out with the same intent that drives John Levine. Trained originally as an electronic engineer and then as a classical composer, John has also studied psychology and the physiology of hearing. He read about the discovery by Dr Hans Berger, of how the brain emits electrical waves, which rise and fall in intensity depending on our mood.
These waves, whether in the brain or being emitted into the air, are measured in Megahertz (MHz) and scientists. After considerable experimentation, John established the pattern of sound that predictably invites the brain to settle into alpha state. This is a calmer state than the excitable peaks and troughs, known as beta, which contribute to feelings of anxiety.

Sharing his heart through music and chanting is the basis of Krishna Das' own spiritual work; his way of serving the Divine within himself and others.

While living in India for almost three years, Krishna Das' heart was especially drawn to the practice of Bhakti Yoga—the yoga of devotion. Fanning the flames of his inner longing, Maharaj-ji led him deeper and deeper into the practice of kirtan—chanting the Names of God. As an appointed pujari (priest) for the Durga temple in Maharaj-ji's ashram in the foothills of the Himalayas, Krishna Das immersed himself in the worship of the Divine Goddess.
Krishna Das spent as much time as possible with Maharaj-ji over the years in India, opening himself to the flow of Grace and purifying his heart. Early in 1973, he was asked by Maharaj-ji to return to America.

Moldavite |
Moldavite is the only crystal sold by Sound Travels, because of it's unique transformational and connection enhancing qualities.
Formed by a meteorite colliding with Earth many millions of years ago, this green glass-like crystal is found in limited quantities on the bed of the River Moldau in the Czech Republic.
Among the healing properties of Moldavite are it's ability to enhance cosmic connections and communication with interdimensional beings, to aid in the transformation and cleansing of self. This crystal possesses an intensely high vibrational energy which activates the entire chakra system, stimulating the kundalini and at the same time serves as an excellent energetic protector, dispelling heavy energies which invade the auric field.
Sound Travels stocks Moldavite in many forms: as jewellery - beautifully set silver pendants and earrings, and as individual Moldavite pieces of varying sizes for display or healing use. Whichever form you are drawn to, this crystal will serve as an effective partner in bringing the rapid transformation along one's path to greater higher awareness and manifestation!

Pyramids |
Egyptian civilization was one of the greatest and longest lived in the ancient world, lasting for over three thousand years. Now, thousands of years later, this civilization still continues to educate and intrigue.
Ten miles outside the city of Cairo, Egypt, at Giza stands one of the most unique structures on Earth: The Great Pyramid of Egypt, which the largest of all pyramids. It was built for the Pharaoh Khufu. The pyramid itself symbolized both the sun's rays on which the king would ascend to heaven, and the primeval earth mound from which the body of the dead king would be resurrected. It covers 13 acres and rises to the height of a 40 story building. It was constructed with over 2 and a half million blocks of granite and limestone. Each block weighs between two to seventy tons. For centuries the Great Pyramid was shrouded in mystery. Why was it made? Who made it? Why is it shaped as it is? Why is it aligned precisely to north?
As the inner reaches of the Pyramid were explored, a strange phenomenon was discovered. Animals, that had wandered into the pyramid and died, had not decayed - they had mummified! This discovery led to the construction of miniature pyramids that were built to the exact proportions of the Great Pyramids in Egypt.
Just as a lens collects and concentrates light, or a television antenna captures the T.V. program you wish to watch, the pyramid shape collects and focuses the gravitational and magnetic field that swirls over the entire Earth. We call this force Pyramid Energy. This energy has a beneficial effect on all living things and a preservative effect on non-living matter. Scale model replicas of the Great Pyramid of Egypt, when aligned to Magnetic North, trap, focus and resonate Pyramid Energy. This energy is collected by the pyramid shape and discharged from the top (apex).
This discovery may revolutionize the future much in the same way as the utilization of electricity or atomic energy changed the first half of the 20th Century.
You can practice your own exercises with these pyramids: For example, place fruit, milk, or vegetables under an aligned pyramid. You can also test the taste of wine or coffee after it has been under the pyramid. We especially recommend testing drinking water.
Have fun exploring Pyramid Power!
Q Chord |
This instrument is so unique it just has to have it's own Sound Travels category!
The Q Chord (new generation Omnichord) is both unique and innovative, taking creative enjoyment to a level unattainable on more conventional instruments. Essentially a mass-market product, anyone can play the instrument, the first time they try... whatever their level of playing skill!
Some of the main reasons why the Q Chord is so successful:It's Easy To Play:From "zero" to "musician" in 9 seconds flat!
Just press a chord button, strum the "strings" on the unique "strumplate". Always in tune, you'll sound great using just the basic features, without ever making a mistake. The Instrument:
The Q Chord incorporates the best technology from a basic keyboard and electric guitar and combines both in a portable, easy to use way. The instrument is divided up into three sections; a touch sensitive 'strum plate', a rhythm section and chord button section. Each of these areas can be used independently or combined. There are many wonderful and varied sounds obtainable from the strum plate and the combination of different musical sounds achievable is both impressive and unusual!
Easy to Use:
The Q Chord is quite simply a unique instrument that anyone can play, from novice to accomplished musician. By using the basic features, the player will always sound 'in tune' and the 'strum plate' has been designed to avoid any 'wrong notes'!
Absolute Beginners:
From a complete beginners point of view, a degree of enjoyment is normally only achieved after several months hard work in learning to play more conventional instruments. This is why so many keyboards and guitars end up under the bed, or stored away, never to be seen again! The Q Chord takes the drudgery out of repetitive practice and allows instant creative musical enjoyment!
Music Composition:
Because the Q Chord takes the hard work out of playing, it makes the art of making music more fun and therefore allows more creativity with regard to composing music. As a composition tool therefore, the Q Chord is unmatched with regard to its versatility and portability.
Famous Q Chord Users:
There are many famous artists who use the Q Chord (or old Omnichord) such as Jarvis Cocker, Robbie Williams, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Brian Eno, Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr and Bjork to name but a few! The pop group 'The High Fidelity' has used the 'quirky' sounds of the Q Chord to good effect and plays the instrument a lot in their recordings. They also share their enthusiasm for the instrument with Radio Ones John Peel. When Sean Dickson (The High Fidelity) was asked on Radio One "What's it like to play, is it easy?" Sean said "Oh, it's very easy, anyone can come up with something in about half an hour. It's not like any other instrument". Brian Eno maintains "I couldn't do without it!"
Education/Schools:
Anyone can create great sounds from the Q Chord, which in itself is an inspiration to use it more and more. This somewhat addictive aspect to the instrument can motivate the novice to learn more about the music they are creating. Multiple skill levels on the Q Chord will allow natural progression in this way. Many schools have now adopted the Q Chord as an accompaniment instrument for classroom sessions or for individual student tuition.
Other Users:
The Q Chord is an ideal accompaniment instrument, which therefore makes it popular with a wide variety of different outlets and groups, such as churches, Primary schools, Pre-schools/Kindergarten, Scouts, Girl Guides, caravan and camping etc. The very soothing melodic sounds of the Q Chord make it ideal for use in therapy groups and therapeutic applications. Many organisations are now using it for this.
Accessories:
There are a number of accessories available for the Q Chord, the most notable of which are the song cartridges. These plug into the instrument and the karaoke effect makes it possible to play as well as sing along to pop favourites, country and western, religious, children's favourites, party hits etc. Great fun for all the family to join in! The Q Chord is easily connected to a speaker, for increasing volume to larger audiences, if required. The MIDI facilities also allow connection to other instruments or to a computer if needed.
Conclusion:
Not everyone wants to be a world class musician, but many people would like to play an instrument well enough to enjoy what they are playing and hope that others are enjoying what they are listening to! The Q Chord does both!
• Easy to play.
• Any age - anyone from very young to very mature!
• Anyone can play - whatever his or her level of playing skill.
• Composition -the ideal composing instrument.
• Teaching - an excellent educational instrument.
• Therapy - now used in specialist Therapy Centres.
• Reduce stress - great for reducing stress levels for everyone!
• Suitable for many outlets/groups -Churches, Playgroups, retirement centres etc.
• Ideal for all the family to use.
• A good alternative (to guitar or keyboard) for the club performer!
Ram Dass |
Ram Dass changed the world in 1971 with the publication of his hugely influential “Be Here Now” - a book that quickly brought spiritual practice and meditation to millions of Westerners.
Not only did its stunning information and design impel readers right into a realization of the essential present, it introduced Eastern spiritual practice to the West in a totally accessible way. The book still stands as the highly readable centerpiece of Western articulation of Eastern philosophy, and how to live joyously a hundred per cent of the time in the present, luminous or mundane.
It is still part of the timeless present. Being here now is still being here now.

One of the most respected sound healers in the world today.
Neither the voice nor the man can be explained in one paragraph or in any combination of words. Udu or Ibo drums originate from Nigeria and are played by rhythmically opening and closing the side-hole with the palm of the hand.

The bass tone is combined with the body sound, a clear and stony percussive sound, which is created by hitting any part of the pot with the fingers.
Here we offer Udu drums from Indonesia, Italy and Germany made from clay, wood and fibreglass, and traditional clay Potes from Brazil.
