Lyz Cooper

Lyz Cooper

Lyz has been working in the complementary health arena since 1981 and has studied many aspects of this field. She has been teaching since 1992 within both mainstream and private adult education. In 2004 she graduated from University with a Certificate in Education (Cert.Ed) and is now taking a Masters Degree in Education - researching the effectiveness of sound on learning ability, social skills and the immune system.

In 1995 she began researching sound therapy and developed an effective technique for improving health and well-being. Her work has produced excellent results and received very positive support from the media with features in magazines, newspapers, radio and television in the UK and overseas.

In 2000 Lyz formed the first sound therapy training establishment in the UK to offer a professional qualification in sound therapy. She is a consultant to the Institute for Complementary Medicine and a member of the British General Council of Complementary Practitioners, an organisation formed to represent the complex profession of complementary medicine through elected and appointed representatives.

Lyz gives performances and runs talks, workshops and presentations in the UK and overseas. She has also composed two CD's - Chakra Balance and Crystal and Stone – and performs with her group, Soundscapes, in wonderful locations such as Stonehenge. In June 2006 Soundscapes released their first CD Emergence which has received excellent reviews.

Lyz's book, 'Sounding the Mind of God' is due to be released in September 09 and has received positive endorsements from James D'Angelo, Jonathan Goldman, Dr Fred Alan Wolf (AKA Dr Quantum) and Dr Manjir Samanta Laughton.

"Qualifying as a Sound Practitioner in 2009 has been one of the highlights of my healing practice. Whether you already are a complementary therapist or entirely new to this field, you will discover a grounded and structured approach for working with clients, and for conducting your own soundbaths. I also learnt to explore my voice confidently and found there an amazing tool for self-transformation and healing. Altogether a wonderful experience, with the privilege to have met dear friends for life." Nelly Gauch Dip.ST (BAST) – pic attached to email The course takes you on your own personal journey through voice, breath and movement, besides providing a confidence-building training to enable you to effectively practice as a Holistic Voice Therapist. It is revealing, inspiring and exceptionally well-planned and taught, besides being an exciting and challenging adventure. Gail Duff Dip.HVT (BAST) My self Journey has been amazing, my guides along the way (tutors and fellow students) have been great. I have attended many courses over the last 25 years – this is by far the most inspirational. Dean Kitching Dip ST (BAST) The lasting impression for me is one of tremendous excitement and possibilities for the future. It’s as if all this "stuff" has been lying dormant and unnoticed inside me and you have somehow just opened a door and teased it all out of me! Jonathan Hill – training community soundworker – pic attached to email "This course is highly inspirational and motivating, with hands-on experience to get me out there working confidently with groups. It's a course that caters for established and still-training Therapists and Practitioners as well as complete novices to sound - we learn from and inspire each other as our own community!" Helen Harris - Th.Dip.ST(BAST)

On Dissonance

Dissonance is such an important part of our work at BAST. If you were to liken consonance to the wonderful sweeping effleurage movements that a massage therapist makes then dissonance is the chopping motion they use to help break down the knots. Project Globalsound - a sonic collage for unity and wholing

Project ‘Globalsound’ - A sonic collage for unity and ''wholing'' ‘Times they are a changing’. Bob Dylan’s words resonate within me as I reflect on where we are as beings on this Earth at this time. There is instability on many levels and the media tend to focus on one aspect, which can entrain our energy and pull us off centre. When we are experiencing what we may perceive as chaos, darkness or ''negative energy'' there is also another process going on - one of great potential, learning and... read more
