A one day workshop with Sounding Bowls
Birmingham Conservatoire September 27th 2014 10am-4.30pm
Sounding Bowls, with strings inside are a new form of musical instrument that has found a home in music therapy with remarkable results in many fields within the NHS and worldwide.
This one off workshop is specially developed for Music Therapists and people interested in professional applications of Sounding Bowls. You will receive an introduction to the Bowls, have a chance to play them and ask questions of Tobias Kaye, sole maker and designer. Co-presenters will be music therapists who have been working with Sounding Bowls in different professional capacities.
Mary Aillon works in France, with the older age, including specialist units for advanced dementia, where she has had particular success with the Sounding Bowls. Tamsin Dives works with young people with Emotional Behavioural Disorders and has touching stories of how Sounding Bowls changed the interactions she previously experienced. Both of these people have a great deal of experience with challenging behaviour & have found that Sounding Bowls open doors that other instruments have not. These sections of the workshop offer genuine feedback and techniques from experienced practitioners.
This is a hands on experience, a chance to experience how the Bowls could enhance your practice and make a real difference to your clients. You will get to hear, hold, and play a wide variety of Sounding Bowls, doing exercises and meditations with sound and with note sequences that give you deep and intimate access to the power of these new instruments.
By the end of the Workshop you will be in a different space with new skills and understanding under your belt. Sounding Bowls are increasingly recognised worldwide as uniquely powerful music therapy tools. Don’t miss this remarkable experience!
