Khöömii is an amazing style of overtone or harmonic singing where one person sings two or more distinct pitches at the same time. It originates among the nomads of the central Asian plateau, particularly the Altai and Sayan mountain regions of Mongolia and Tuva. The nomads of these parts have discovered how to sing melodies that arise from the universal harmonic overtone series.
Listen to your own overtones as you discover the unknown depths and heights of your own voice. This workshop is open to anyone who wishes to explore the harmonic nature of their voice.
Michael Ormiston is Britain’s foremost Mongolian Khöömii (overtone) singer. He has travelled to Mongolia six times since 1993 and is the only European blessed to teach the basic practices of Mongolian Khöömii by masters Tserendavaa and Gereltsogt.
Candida Valentino began studying sound therapy in 1991, working with toning, overtone singing and voice work as a tool for healing. Candida is the only British woman to sing Khargyraa, an undertone style that has strong connections with shamanistic practices of Mongolia and Tuva.
