Khöömii is an amazing style of overtone or harmonic singing where one person sings two or more distinct pitches at the same time. It originates among the nomads of the central Asian plateau, particularly the Altai and Sayan mountain regions of Mongolia and Tuva. The nomads of these parts have discovered how to sing melodies that arise from the universal harmonic overtone series.

The workshop is open to anyone who wishes to explore the harmonic nature of their voice.
Michael Ormiston is Britain’s most experienced Mongolian Khöömii (overtone) singer, being one of the only non-Mongolians able to sing Khöömii. His voice has been used in Hollywood films, David Attenborough’s acclaimed wildlife series Planet Earth, and heard in concert by H.H. the Dalai Lama. He has travelled to Mongolia 6 times since 1993 where he studied with Khöömii singers Tserendavaa, Gereltosgt, Tsogbadraa & Tsengedorj. He is the only Europeans blessed to teach the basic practices of Mongolian Khöömii by Tserendavaa & Gereltsogt.
