High-grade, Double-skinned Spring Drum with 2 Resonance Holes.
This traditional barrel-shaped spring drum from Iran is one of the best we ever played and heard.
This spring drum's sturdy body is made in skilled craftsmanship of various wood bars (e.g. mulberry, pine, walnut, oak, ash or cherry) glued together to a tube. The inside is coated with synthetic resin, the outside of this thunder drum is smoothed and varnished emphasizing the colour of the woods. Both sides are equipped with a tense natural skin (goat or sheep without chemical tanning). This gives this amazing spring drum a loud, crisp and vigorous-penetrating sound.
The 1.2 m (47") long steel spring of this thunder drum contributes to the great sound as well. It is mounted properly on one side's skin. The spring is slightly stretched and hardened in a flame which does not only gives it impressive low sound capabilities, but improves the high frequency range and it's nuances considerably.
Both opposite, but offset placed sound holes do have a different diameter and invite the player to modulate. You can literally feel the thunderstorm while playing. With a little finger practice you can even play this spring drum in a percussive way - with the resonating reverb of the spring - or without.
A very versatile percussion instrument that can also be used as an echo chamber for vocal antics!
