This is a great high quality, yet inexpensive, kalimba. It is great for improvisation and wandering around in music space, and is probably great for story telling.
African paduak face wood mounted on a hard gourd with smoothly finished spring steel. The two rows of 8 tines can do some great tricks: as you play on one row of tines, the others will resonate sympathetically. As the upper row is tuned a third higher than the tines on the lower row, you can pull your thumb off from an upper tine to one of the lower tines and it sounds great.
Each gourd is shaped differently, but the face wood is masterfully cut, routed and sanded to fit the gourd. Two vibrator holes are present on either side.
