A One-Day Workshop with Chloe Goodchild, Founder of The Naked Voice
Many people have a real curiosity about their voice, yet they will say they have never had the chance to be heard. Some people privately feel they have a really powerful voice inside, yet they hide it because they feel it is too strong to be heard. There is a fear associated with the voice that can be overwhelming.
I carried out some market research based on the question, “How do you feel about your voice?” The majority response was “I haven’t got one”. This would be followed up by a story e.g. “I cant sing” due to some traumatic early memory of being thrown out of the choir; or more shockingly, being verbally or physically abused for simply speaking out, sharing or sounding your truth. Does this ring any bells? Social conditioning in early childhood has sadly prohibited any kind of original expression for many people, and that lid can remain clamped tight for years. How many times a day do you judge yourself, or another, negatively for communicating in the ‘wrong’ way? What would life be like if you let go of your judging mind, for the way you sound, or communicate? And what would it be like to encourage your voice to express your self, rather than to impress others?
