Resonance, Resistance and Sound Healing - By Lyz Cooper

\\\"Do you want to change the world? How about beginning with yourself? How about being transformed yourself first? But how do you achieve that? Through observation. Through understanding. With no interference or judgment on your part. Because what you judge you cannot understand.

When you say of someone, “He’s a communist,” understanding has stopped at that moment. You slapped a label on him. “She’s a capitalist.” Understanding has stopped at that moment. You slapped a label on her, and if the label carries undertones of approval or disapproval, so much the worse! How are you going to understand what you disapprove of, or what you approve of, for that matter? All of this sounds like a new world, doesn’t it? No judgment, no commentary, no attitude: one simply observes, one studies, one watches, without the desire to change what is. Because if you desire to change what is into what you think should be, you no longer understand.\\\"
Anthony de Mello, page 20

Chris James\\\'s article on sound healing made an interesting point which is worthy of discussion - you can see his article here http://www.soundtravels.co.uk/chris-james-au-25.html?osCsid=6e4e201a77fc72c2f78cde96776c69ff.

I was motivated to write this article to discuss an important subject that, in my opinion, is fundemental. As a sound practitioner I use sound as a medium to facilitate healing and transformation by identifying areas of resonance and resistance. In my opinion this is a fundamental aspect of my work. In this article, rather than address sound healing and/or sound healers specifically I thought it would be interesting to explore resonance and resistance. We can then apply these principles to our daily life and practice if it resonates.

Resonance and resistance is not just confined to the field of sound, it is a universal law – it happens to everyone. Every time we switch on the TV, work with a client or read a newspaper we are resonating with the outside world. This resonance can manifest in life-affirming energy or resistance. Resistance is not a bad thing – it is a wonderful gift that allows us to grow and develop. Feel your resistance, enjoy your resistance, love your resistance – it is there to facilitate a shift in consciousness.

When we make judgements about others, their system, their life, their bad habits, their intention – remember...

There IS NO THEM, there is ONLY YOU.

Here is another quote from Jesuit priest Anthony de Mello.

Anytime you have a negative feeling toward anyone, you’re living in an illusion. There’s something seriously wrong with you. You’re not seeing reality. Something inside of you has to change. But what do we generally do when we have a negative feeling? “He is to blame, she is to blame. She’s got to change.” No! The world’s all right. The one who has to change is you. (page 26)

YOU are the only one that is responsible for how YOU feel, what YOU do and how YOU interact with your outside world. But what about others? What they do to me, the world, themselves?

Ponder this question for a moment...

Have you ever really met anyone?

Jane, Peter, Hans and Lilly are chatting about Bill – who they recently met at a party. ‘I didn’t like Bill’ says Jane, sipping on her cappuccino. ‘Oh, no – I loved him!’ says Peter – ‘he was really funny and the life and soul of the party’. ‘He was miserable!’ argues Jane through the foamy top of her cup. ‘I don’t know what you two are on but I thought he had a lot of anger inside him – I could feel it as soon as he walked in the room!’ chimes Lilly. ‘Sexy, definitely sexy’ contributes Hans ‘touch of the George Cluny about him’.

This is an example of resonance. Jane, Peter, Hans and Lilly are seeing aspects of themselves in Bill – they are filtering themselves THROUGH Bill. This in turn is showing them where the resistance is within them. It has nothing whatsoever to do with Bill. They cannot know Bill, only Bill can truly know himself, but they are able to see themselves through their relationship with Bill. So from the way they are resonating we can clearly see that Jane is miserable and Lilly is angry. Peter really liked Bill so his encounter resonated with happiness and fun within him – it was an energy expanding experience. Hans’ energy is also expanding but let’s not get into that here!

It is easy to think that something or someone else is harming you, but we have already discovered that this is impossible, so let’s look at the concept of harmfulness. If you look at the fundamental nature of energy can anything actually be harmful? Everything is a manifestation of God. I am not talking about God in the religious sense; Einstein called the fabric of the universe the ‘Mind of God’. I am talking about the universal energy soup that is us – WE ARE GOD.

We can see war as being evil, bad, futile, negative...... or, we can see it as necessary for us to evolve to another level of being. We need the smokers, murderers, drunks and rip-off merchants. How do we know we need them? Because we have them! They are a necessary part of our creation so we can evolve. Would we say yes to alcohol and drugs? Yes, if we are using this experience to learn and grow from. How can that be bad?

You are perfect, I am perfect, we are perfect, the world is perfect, the chakra system is perfect. Everything is in order – love what is. When there is no resistance within you the energy can flow freely and uninhibited. THIS IS LOVE. This is resonating with the mind of God. Love who you are, what you do and everything that is. Personally I wouldn’t get too wrapped up in what you SHOULD or SHOULDN’T do. Do what you want to do and listen. Listen, feel, observe. Monitor any resistance that is shown to you, love it and work with it using sound and other modalities that feed and nourish you.

Love your sound work, love yourself.
