USA, MA - Boston Gong Camp, Mitch Nur, PhD, Circles of Wisdom, 90 Main St., Andover, MA 01810, 18 May 2013
This intensive master class is designed to make you a better player, and a more knowledgeable student of one of the most ancient of sound instruments. The program looks at sticks, stands, mallets, and the latest playing tips for Live Performance, Yoga, Meditation, Sound Therapy, and more. Gong styles and types will be reviewed, as well as new products. A discussion of Gong cultures and history will also be included. Perfect for the Gong player, as well as students who are just interested in them, or are considering purchasing one. Class size is limited, and early registration is advised. Hosted by Mitch Nur, PhD, who has been playing Gongs for 4 decades, and has one of the largest private collections of Gongs in North America. He has trained hundreds worldwide, and is one of the few authentic teachers of this instrument. He holds a yearly Advanced Study retreat program on the Gong, and is a sought out presenter of the Gong. Students can bring their Gongs to the program, but it is not necessary. A 90 minute break is allocated. This program is devoted to not only informing you about the aspects of the Gong, but how to play it in a creative and artistic manner. If you think that banging a Gong is playing it, you could not be more mistaken. Crashing and smashing a Gong IS NOT playing it. Centuries ago in the East, Gong players were regarded as 'Doctors of Sound', and were members of the therapeuti. Its time to move beyond the Gong Show and other novelties, and present the instrument as a palette for harmonics, capable of transformation.
