Mongolian Khoomii Overtone Singing is where one person sings two or more distinct pitches at the same time. It originates in the Altai & Sayan mountain regions of Mongolia & Tuva. The nomads of these parts have discovered how to sing melodies that arise from the universal harmonic overtone series. Listen to your own overtones as you discover the unknown depths & heights of your own voice. The workshop is open to anyone who wishes to explore the harmonic nature of their voice. Experience the magical sounds of Tibetan Singing Bowls, their history & use in meditation, relaxation & deep listening practices. Learn the various techniques of making the bowls sing in a relaxed & friendly environment. Please bring your own bowls (not compulsory). Michael Ormiston is the UK’s most experienced Mongolian Khöömii Overtone singer, having travelled to Mongolia 6 times to be taught by the masters of the tradition. He is a composer, multi-instrumentalist & has led inspirational workshops & Therapeutic sound massages using Khöömii, Tibetan Singing Bowls, Symphonic Gongs and … over the past 20 years. Candida Valentino is the only British woman to perform “Khargyraa”, an undertone style of singing that has strong connections with shamanistic practices of Mongolia and Tuva. She uses the healing sounds of Tibetan Singing Bowls, Gongs & Sacred Sound instruments in individual sessions and in concerts in the UK & Europe.
