Eight Auspicious Symbols - New Year Concert

MICHAEL ORMISTON & CANDIDA VALENTINO
World renowned musicians, teachers and therapeutic sound practitioners Michael and Candida have created a special concert for Alternatives to welcome 2013 with the eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism. Tibetan Singing Bowls, Mongolian Khöömii Overtone and Undertone Singing, Symphonic Gongs, Conch Shells, Damaru, Shawm, Tingshaw, Tibetan bells, Shaman drum and more will invoke the Wisdom of the Wheel of Dharma.
The eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism are:
Triumph of the “Banner of Victory”;
Protection of the “Parasol”;
Power of the “Conch Shell”;
Wealth of the “Treasure Vase”
Abundance of the “Pair of Golden Fish”
Eternal Harmony of the “Endless Knot”;
And the Bright Sunshine of Enlightenment of the “Lotus Flower”.

Michael Ormiston is best known for his Khöömii singing, also known as overtone or throat singing. It allows the singer to produce harmonic tones that can mirror the sounds of waterfalls, the blowing of the Steppe winds, and the chants of Buddhist monks. Khöömii singers use their diaphragms like a bagpipe bellows to emit a steady bass note while simultaneously producing a higher nasal tone, essentially carrying two tunes at the same time.

Michael Ormiston & Candida Valentino
Michael Ormiston is the UK’s most experienced Mongolian Khöömii Overtone Singer, travelling to Mongolia since 1993 where he was initiated into the sacred & secular aspects of this amazing way of connecting to the power of the voice by senior keeper of the Mongolian tradition, Tserendavaa. His teaching of Khöömii, Tibetan Singing Bowls, Gongs and other ritual instruments is both inspiring and informative.
Candida Valentino is the only British woman to perform “Khargyraa, an undertone style of singing that has strong connections with shamanistic practices of Mongolia and Tuva. She uses the healing sounds of Tibetan Singing Bowls, Gongs & Sacred Sound instruments in individual sessions and in concerts in the UK & Europe.
