Nepal, KATHMANDU - Himalayan Singing Bowl Field Studies in Nepal, Mitch Nur, PhD, , 15 Mar 2014
This program will be held March 15-24, 2014 at a recently built Ashram close to Kathmandu, and just 5km from Thamel. This is early Spring in the Kathmandu Valley, warm days, cool nights. We will hold a few workshops at the Ashram with invited guests and authorities. Our field trips will include visits to Thamel, Bodhnath, Patan, Bhaktapur, Durbar Square, and Swayambhunath; giving us a clear sense of the culture that is most responsible for the Singing Bowls. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience, guided by Mitch Nur, PhD, the leading western authority. Rub elbows with local experts in the epicenter of the Singing Bowls. This trip is limited to just 20 participants. If you are interested in this event, please email in, so we can put you on the contact list for updates on this retreat.
Basic Outline of the Field Studies Program: Visits to Singing Bowl factories, see how they are made, visit with local singing bowl collectors, singing bowl authorities, shops selling genuine antiques (including the first Singing Bowl shop that opened in Kathmandu and it's owners). Attend a Singing Bowl program hosted by the Nepalese themselves. Visit UNESCO world heritage sites, and hold discussions on Singing Bowls and the culture of Nepal with these sites as our backdrop. We may include a visit to a local Monastery as well.
We have secured our own private air conditioned transportation to shuttle us around. There is a minimum of private rooms, otherwise shared, 2 to a room at the Ashram (wireless internet). We will have access to the most trusted export company in Kathmandu, for anyone wishing to ship items back to their country. We are also making available a trip to Chitwan National Park and Pokhara at the conclusion of the field studies program for anyone wishing to sightsee before returning home. This is a 4 day tour, all inclusive.
