Khöömii is an amazing style of harmonic overtone singing where one person sings two or more distinct pitches at the same time. It originates among the nomads of the central Asian plateau, particularly the Altai & Sayan mountain regions of Mongolia & Tuva. The nomads of these parts have discovered how to sing melodies that arise from the universal harmonic series. Listen to your own overtones as you discover the unknown depths and heights of your own voice.
The six evening classes are open to anyone who wishes to explore the harmonic nature of their voice.
Michael Ormiston is Britain’s foremost Mongolian Khöömii (overtone) singer, being one of the only non-Mongolians able to sing Khöömii. His voice has been used in Hollywood films, David Attenborough’s acclaimed wildlife series Planet Earth, & heard in concert by H.H. the Dalai Lama.
He travelled to Mongolia 6 times since 1993 where he studied with Khöömii singers Tserendavaa, Gereltosgt, Ganbold, Tsogbadraa & Tsengedorj and is the only European been blessed to teach the basic practices of Mongolian Khöömii by Tserendavaa & Gereltsogt.
