, Launch and Open Day for new School of Sound and Tribal Healing Arts, Suzanne Harris & Anthar Kharana, Soundsphere, The Golden Leaf, 7 Silverbirch Studios, Cavalry Park, Peebles, Scottish Borders, EH45 9BU, 02 Feb 2013

To celebrate the launch of the new School of Sound and Tribal Healing Arts in the UK, we are holding an Open Day for interested participants in the brand new Certificate in Creative Therapeutic Sound starting in April 2013. The School will have it's base in Peebles, Scotland and Bristol and the first course for 2013 will be held in Scotland (and the aim is to offer it elsewhere in the UK in 2014). The open Day will give interested participants a chance to meet Suzanne and Anthar, find out more about the course and enjoy some sonic experiences! THE COURSE The new Certificate course aims to teach participants how to work with sound for themselves, their communities or incorporate it into their own therapies. No previous experience is required and the course will cover aspects of the theory and history of sound as a healing modality; introduce participants to many sound healing tools such as Tibetan and crystal singing bowls, overtone singing, gong, drum and percussion, and share skills, techniques and knowledge to ensure that the students become proficient in the playing of these. Throughout the course students will explore the different ways these instruments can be used individually, or woven together for group work. Subjects include: Healing soundscapes ~ Dynamics ~ Harmonies and dissonance ~ Exploring different tools ~ Support for emotional release and challenges ~ Sound as an ancient medicine ~ Performance and holding the group space ~ Sacred space cleansing and preparation ~ Assessment recordings ~ Preparation of self. STRUCTURE The course will be held over six weekend modules, spread over a ten month period, and held in a beautiful holistic centre in Peebles in the Scottish Borders. It may suit therapists, teachers, medical staff, carers, musicians, community workers or anyone who is interested in the course for their own self development or working with their community. Students will be required to do some home study and will be assessed through ongoing coursework and a final presentation. On completion of the course each student will have a deep understanding of how they can use sound in their own lives and communities, host group sound relaxations or journeys, or blend it with their existing therapies. COURSE DIRECTORS The School of Sound and Tribal Healing Arts is a new initiative being brought forward by Anthar Kharana and Suzanne Harris, both graduates in the Practitioners level Diploma in Sound Therapy from the British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST) and members of the British Register for Complementary Practitioners (MBRCP-Sound). Anthar and Suzanne have been working across the UK and in Colombia over the last 4 years providing a prolific amount of sound related events, treatments, workshops and concerts. Their courses and events are delivered with a sense of open-ness and light-heartedness, as well as being professional and highly supportive. Anthar Kharana (Colombia) is the founder of Tribal Sound Healing in Bristol. He comes from a lineage of musicians and has been involved with music since aged eight and is now an accomplished musician and composer. He has more than ten years of experience with the sacred and therapeutic use of sound and frequencies, shamanic studies with different elders of his land, and leads different workshops on voice and singing, traditional Colombian drumming and sacred ceremonies uniting people around the world. Anthar is also the founder of the Tambora Foundation, preserving ancestral arts and wisdom for children and indigenous people in Colombia, and has studied other forms of healing including Reiki Master (III) at Baclinar, 2 years of shiatsu at Ecoquitem, herbology and herbs. Music and sound have been forever linked with his work with the aim to awaken the hearts of people and to blend both paths, sound and medicine as one. www.tribalsoundhealing.com Suzanne Harris (Scotland) is the founder of Soundsphere in Scotland. Suzanne has worked in environmental education and charity work for many years, whilst also exploring the nature of reality, singing and the power of voice as a healing tool. She graduated from Queen Margaret’s University in Edinburgh with a BA in Communication Studies, focussing her final year project on Music and The Communication of Emotions, and whilst studying to become a Sound Therapist, Suzanne’s main focus was on the voice and specifically the effects of overtoning. While working privately as a Sound Therapist, Suzanne has continued to explore different healing methods, working with Reiki, intuitive development, colour and shamanic practices. She offers private treatments, informal workshops, demonstrations and talks on therapeutic sound whilst also working part-time at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh where she develops and oversees the Continuing and Professional Courses programme for adults. www.soundsphere.org.uk COURSE DATES AND VENUE Each weekend will run from 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday.
