USA, NEW YORK CITY - Music and Meditation, Open Music Ensemble, NYIMC 28 West 27th St., 10th Fl, Buzz #27, 16 Nov 2013

MUSIC AND MEDITATION NOVEMBER 16! The Open Music Ensemble presents Music and Meditation usually once a month, on the first or third Saturday of each month, at the New York Insight Meditation Center, 28 West 27th street, 10th Floor, buzzer # 27. In these meetups, basic meditation instruction is offered to participants, then the program leader invites the audience to place their attention on sounds and silences especially created for them by the Ensemble while they meditate or engage in other contemplative practices of their choice. Sometimes the leader offers Martine Batchelor's 'Instructions for Listening Meditation" or similar readings. Finally, after a period of silence, participants are invited to share and discuss their experiences. The Open Music Ensemble has presented this program since 2008 at the Shambhala Center, the Interdependence Project, the Jewish Community Center, the Tibet House, and New York Insight Meditation Center, all in New York City. Roshi Joan Halifax, Abbot of Upaya Zen Center, describes Music and Meditation as "a wonderful program". On November 16 the music will be provided by Ken Silverman on guitar and oud, Jonathan Saraga on trumpet, Anne Dearth on transverse flute, Nicholas Handahl on flutes, Philip Foster on light percussion and other members of the Ensemble. To RSVP and for additional information see www.meetup.com/musicandmeditation.
