Cymatics: Insights into the Healing Nature of Sound
Saturday, July 6, 2013
presented by Jeff Volk.
This exciting and engaging multimedia presentation will interweave a variety of modalities including music, video and live poetry! It will feature a variety of video excerpts from Volk’s award-winning documentary, Of Sound Mind and Body: Music and Vibrational Healing, from the original films documenting the experiments done in the 50’s and 60’s by Hans Jenny, and from contemporary Cymatics researchers. A playful, but comprehensive overview of the science of Cymatics will be presented, demonstrating its fundamental role in the evolution of many groundbreaking concepts in physics that we now take for granted (like, “The fact of the matter is, there is no matter....”) and how these principles lay a firm foundation for many of the therapeutic uses of sound and music that have been burgeoning worldwide.
A short documentary will also be shown on the clinical use of MusiCure,® beautiful acoustic music composed by Danish oboist, Niels Eje, which is now being used in hospitals and other therapeutic settings worldwide, and a select assortment of sound resources (books, DVDs and MusiCure® CDs) will be available for purchase. Bio:
Jeff Volk is a poet, a producer and a publisher who has been popularizing the science of Cymatics for almost three decades. In 2001 he re-issued Dr. Hans Jenny's groundbreaking Cymatics books which scientifically demonstrate how audible sound creates harmonic, geometric patterns found in intricate life forms, and in the sacred art and architecture of the world's Great Traditions. In the 1980s, he produced a series of videos on Cymatics, and has re-released Dr. Jenny’s original films on DVD. His 1992 documentary, Of Sound Mind and Body: Music and Vibrational Healing, won the Hartley Film Award through the Institute of Noetic Sciences. Its phenomenal success inspired him to produce The International Sound Colloquium, (through which he met Tina Tourin, Barb Crowe and Sarajane Williams, as well as many, many other knowledgeable and fascinating people), which was to become the premier conference throughout the 1990s exploring the power of sacred sound and healing music.
In 2006, he published the English language edition of Water Sound Images by contemporary Cymatics researcher, Alexander Lauterwasser. He has distilled this wealth of experience into multimedia presentations and a variety of feature articles, which have been published worldwide.
His presentations employ diverse modalities to demonstrate how the same dynamics that are portrayed objectively in the realms of physics by Cymatics, are also at play subjectively, in our personal lives. His work spans a wide range of topics, but always seeks to offer a wider perspective and an inclusiveness that integrates the disparate. Further information may be found at www.cymaticsource.com
