UK, SCOTLAND - ANSU Certificate in Creative Therapeutic Sound, Anthar Kharana and Suzy Nairn of ANSU School of Sound and Tribal Healing Arts, Peebles, Scottish Borders, 07 Apr 2018

This course aims to teach participants how to work with sound for themselves, their communities or incorporate it into their own therapies. It will cover many aspects of the theory and history of sound as a healing modality; introduce participants to many sound healing tools such as Tibetan singing bowls, overtone singing, drum and percussion, and share skills, techniques and knowledge to ensure that the students become proficient in the playing of these. Throughout the course students will explore the different ways these instruments can be used individually, or woven together for group work. The course is also a journey of self discovery and is delivered in a ceremonial style i.e each session links with ancient knowledge and traditions and can include plant smudges, resins, and medicine songs.
SUBJECTS INCLUDE: Creating healing soundscapes Dynamics Harmonies and dissonance Exploring different tools and instruments Support for emotional release and challenges Chakra system Medicine Wheel Sound as an ancient medicine Performance and holding the group space Sacred space cleansing and preparation Preparation of self.
Students will be required to do home practice and study (including a written research project and case study report) and will be assessed through coursework and a final presentation. On completion of the course each student will have a deep understanding of how they can use sound in their own lives and communities, host group sound relaxations or journeys, or blend it with their existing therapies.
*There is also the option to join a Ceremonial Fire on the Saturday evenings which we would recommend if possible.
*Course includes Course Manual and ANSU Certificate
*No previous experience or musical training is required, just enthusiasm!
*Some therapy experience is preferred
***This course does not teach students how to become Practitioners of Sound Therapy to work with individual clients.
If students wish to become practitioners they need to do this Certificate first, and in the second year they are eligible to join the new ANSU Diploma of Therapeutic Sound (also beginning 2018) which develops into working with people individually
WHO WILL THE COURSE SUIT?
Over the years we have been asked by many people to come and work with their school, or Parkinsons group, or Alzeihmers group, or children with special needs to name but a few and we recognise the need for more people to be able to take sound as a therapeutic tool into the wider community. We have also seen the way sound can cleanse, support and energise individuals after even a short session and have developed this course to meet some of those needs. We see this course as being of interest to: * Individuals who would like to take sound into schools, hospitals, hospices and care centres * Existing holistic therapists who wish to add sound to their healing mix * Carers, counsellors or support workers who work with different communities * Musicians looking to incorporate the healing aspects of sound and music *Anyone who wishes to develop themselves and take this journey within a supportive and safe space

Weekend 1: 7th - 8th April 2018 Weekend 2: 28th - 29th April 2018 Weekend 3: 26th - 27th May 2018 Weekend 4: 23rd - 24th June 2018 Weekend 5: 1st - 2nd September 2018 (Presentation day and closing) *In order to be awarded the Certificate students must attend all modules.

LOCATION
The course will be held in the magical village of Traquair within the Scottish Borders in the local community hall. Traquair Hall is a rural location, 2 minutes from the town of Innerleithen, or 5 minutes from the larger town of Peebles. It is pretty, quiet and remote. It is also the first hall Suzy and Anthar held their first event in March 2009
TRAQUAIR HALL
Each weekend we will be based at the hall. There is plenty of parking and buses will take you as far as Innerleithen, where you can be collected if necessary, or link with your fellow students to car share. Students are invited to bring lunch to share each weekend. Peebles and Innerleithen are great rural towns with a few good pubs and restaurants, lots of lovely walks, forests, hills and countryside. It has everything you need and accommodation is provided within the local hotels or the Kailzie bunkhouse if you don't mind sharing (see information later). The bunkhouse books up quickly with cyclists so it is advised to book early. ** If you can stay overnight locally on the Saturday we would advise it if possible. It is always better to be able to fully immerse yourself over the whole weekend when possible. PLUS we will be offering a ceremonial fire each Saturday evening within Peebles in Casa Colibri, our lovely yurt. For more information on Peebles please visit: http://www.peebles.info/ http://www.visitscotland.com/info/towns
TRAVEL
Peebles itself is around 20 miles south of Edinburgh and easily accessed by car or bus (no X62 from Edinburgh run by Borders Buses - no trains sorry). If you know Edinburgh, it takes 20-30 minutes from IKEA at Straiton in Edinburgh. There are regular buses from Edinburgh although they don’t start till later on a Sunday morning so if you don’t have your own transport then it would be better to stay locally. A return fare from Edinburgh is around £9.50 Borders Bus information and timetables: https://www.bordersbuses.co.uk/timetables ACCOMODATION If you choose to stay locally there are plenty of hotels in Innerleithen or Peebles. Or the cheapest option is to stay at the Kailzie bunkhouse (around £20 night) although those are shared rooms. It is within the Kailzie gardens grounds and also a peaceful and nice location in the heart of nature and only 5 minutes from Traquair. http://www.kailziegardens.com/content/kailzie-bunkhouse

COURSE DIRECTORS
The ANSU School of Sound and Tribal Healing Arts was established in 2013 by Anthar Kharana and Suzy Nairn (formerly Harris), both graduates in the Practitioners level Diploma in Sound Therapy from the British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST) Anthar and Suzy have been working together across the UK and in Colombia over the last 9 years providing a prolific amount of sound related events, treatments, workshops and concerts. Their courses and events are delivered with a sense of open-ness and light-heartedness, as well as being professional and highly supportive.
Anthar Kharana (Colombia) is one of the Guardians of the Sacred Fire and Traditions of the Americas. He comes from a lineage of traditional musicians and healers from Ocaña, a small Pueblo in the North of Colombia in South America (Amerricua, The Land of the Winds). Anthar got involved in traditional healing ceremonies at the age of 14 with wise Elders from the South of Colombia and later on with different native tribes of his homeland. He is the founder of Tribal Sound Healing in the UK and Colombia and coming from a lineage of musicians he has been involved with music since aged eight and is now an accomplished musician and composer. He has more than ten years of experience with the sacred and therapeutic use of sound and frequencies, shamanic studies with different elders of his land, and leads different workshops on voice and singing, traditional Colombian drumming and sacred ceremonies uniting people around the world.
Anthar has studied other forms of healing including Reiki Master (III) at Baclinar, 2 years of shiatsu at Ecoquitem and Traditional Herbology. Music and sound have been forever linked with his work with the aim to awaken the hearts of people and to blend both paths, sound and medicine as one. www.tribalsoundhealing.com www.tribalsoundhealingretreat.com
Suzy Nairn is the founder of Soundsphere in Scotland and has been involved in music and sound healing for over 20 years. Her original training was with Queen Margaret’s University in Edinburgh where she graduated with a BA (Distinction) in Communication Studies, focussing her final year project on Music and The Communication of Emotions. Suzy then worked in art, music, conservation, environmental education and holistic work over the next 25 years and is passionate about sharing the power of sound and facilitating it's sensitive use within all aspects of society. Much of her work has been within teaching and community education - from being a childrens Kindermusik Educator to the Adult Educatiin Manager at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh for 15 years. Throughout that time Suzy has also studied Reiki, Merlin Vortex Healing and the embracing of the feminine through Priestess of the Moon training. Suzy continues to work privately as a Sound Therapist, offering individual treatments, group sessions, workshops, recordings and retreats at her beautiful yurt "Casa Colibri" in Peebles. www.soundsphere.org.uk
COURSE FEE AND EQUIPEMENT The course fee is £900 and can be paid in one lump sum to receive a discount of £50, or in 3 monthly instalments. A deposit of £150 is required to secure your place once you have been accepted on to the course. You will also need to budget to buy equipment and we would suggest around a minimum of £200 will be needed for that, unless you already have some instruments. It’s up to you how far you go with this one! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING BEFORE THE COURSE STARTS!
Part of the journey is gathering your instruments as you go and trying out different types. Sometimes you find them in charity shops and random places (as they find you), plus we will also have some instruments (singing bowls, drums, percussion) for sale via the ANSU Shop onsite and you will no doubt have fun trying out some of the sounds available. Insurance Once you are qualified you will be able to gain insurance through a number of holistic therpay insurers.
