, Silence, Sounds and Spaces - RENZO SPITERI, RENZO SPITERI, St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta Malta (Europe), 11 Nov 2011
Silence, Sounds and Spaces is the title of Renzo Spiteri’s new solo work that will be released as an audio CD during live performances in the Theatre in the Round at St. James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, Valletta on the 11th and 12th November 2011. The album defines Renzo’s creative journey across a selection of the most prominent archaeological sites spread across the Maltese Islands, encompassing music inspired by these sites and exploiting some of their unique natural sonic timbre. This project is the follow-up to the scoring of the music to the visitors’ audio guide of the Hal-Saflieni Hypogeum (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) for which Renzo was commissioned by Heritage Malta (the national agency for museums, conservation practice and cultural heritage) in 2007. “The unique archaeological sites, the known and the unknown, chambers and spaces that vibrate and resonate so splendidly - these were all factors that inspired me to record music for ‘Silence, Sounds and Spaces’", said Renzo Spiteri. "The choice of instruments and materials used to record this CD was profoundly influenced by the silence that prevails in many of the archaeological sites that I visited. The music for this CD is the result of an astounding experience recording at these magnificent sites, yet a very challenging creative process. This project is very special to me.” Silence, Sounds and Spaces has been composed, performed and produced by Renzo Spiteri using the most diverse set-up of instruments from around the world and invented instrumentation. The result is an engaging music creation that draws listeners in to Renzo’s personal musical universe. Featuring unique on-site recordings and through the use of his extraordinary world of sounds, Renzo Spiteri conjures powerful images of these stunning historic sites where time stands still. Tickets for the launch and performance are available from St. James Cavalier (tel: 2122 3200; email: [email protected], online: www.sjcav.org) and cost EUR12. The price includes a complimentary copy of the CD, redeemable on the performance night.
