In this interactive and exciting workshop, Tobias Kaye will be joined by Zambodhi Schlossmacher to introduce us to the amazing world of Sounding Bowls. Tobias will share with us how his vision in a meditation lead him to create Sounding Bowls and Zambodhi will share her experience as one of Sounding Bowls most experienced therapists. “How is it that a simple wooden instrument has such a profound healing effect?” is the driving question for the day. There will be many different Sounding Bowls for you to see, hold and hear during the day. Playing them is an active part of the day’s experience(no musical experience needed!). Using strings across the inside of an acoustic curve in a specially formed wooden vessel, Sounding Bowls are now recognised internationally as unusually effective healing instruments. There are six distinct types of Sounding Bowl, in use everywhere from schools, hospitals, healing centre and meditation centres. The NHS has more Sounding Bowls than any other group of customers and conducted a clinical trial at a top high security psychiatric hospital in 2011 that showed Sounding Bowls to be “more effective than other instruments” in that setting. We will hear the story of how Sounding Bowls came into being and be guided into deepening our feeling for trees through a deep understanding of their being and role in our world. We will touch on sacred geometry using group movement and movement exercises that reveal the remarkable link between straight line, spiral and circle as fundamental aspects of the human and natural world. We will explore how Sounding Bowls are actually used with examples from working with children and adults, some with special needs, and learn a few techniques for unlocking the therapeutic potential of these instruments. During the day we will experience meditation using Sounding Bowls. This workshop aims to offer real tools for opening the heart, insights, exercises and meditations that will warm and strengthen our ability to be here, now and of service to our world.
