, The First Ever Bournemouth Creative Break!, Laura Cousins et al, The Arlington Hotel, Exeter Road, Bournemouth, 30 Sep 2011

Do you want to spend some time by the sea to re-charge the batteries and try something creative? Join our creative retreat weekend on Friday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October 2011 The price is £199 per person if you book before August 31st. This includes welcome drinks on the first evening, dinner, bed and breakfast at the Arlington Hotel for two nights, lunch on Sunday as well as three workshops run for you by professionals in their field: ‘Write to Change’ A creative writing workshop led by published author and speech-writer Brian Jenner. Using practical exercises, you’ll learn how to use writing as a tool for planning, bringing about change and promoting good mental health. You’ll discover ways to motivate yourself to write, techniques for creative thinking and be given an understanding of how storytelling shapes our lives. The workshop will suggest strategies for devising visions of your new creative direction as well as give an insight into the value of a diary or a simple note book. ‘Art with a Difference’ An art workshop that demonstrates that there is an artist in everyone led by artist Trish Jubb who specialises in life drawing. This session breaks through the barriers so often created whilst we are still children, and the expectation of photographic likenesses. Suitable for all, the newcomer and the more experienced, this session helps you rediscover or loosen up your drawing, learn a few secrets, and try out different materials, all in a supportive environment. Bring old clothes so you can relax as you work. ‘Life Music’ A music making workshop led by community musician Laura Cousins. Everyone can make music. We just assume that we can’t, because we haven’t been encouraged to in the past. Starting from the premise “There are NO wrong notes!” and moving on from there, we’ll show you how improvised music-making in a friendly group can bring out the rhythmical, musical person inside you never knew existed. Bournemouth Creative Breaks has been inspired by Bournemouth’s traditional identity as the place for rest and recuperation and devised by three local artists. Come for a weekend by the sea in Bournemouth and join in with some gentle creative workshops designed to get you drawing, writing or playing again – or even for the first time. During the weekend you will participate in all three workshops in small groups. Everyone will be able to experiment in a laid-back and friendly environment as well as enjoying the traditional pleasures of a weekend by the seaside. You may already be experienced in one or more of these creative areas, your skills may be a little rusty or perhaps you have no experience at all and you just fancy the idea of getting away from it all and trying something creative: - No experience necessary - No equipment required (we provide everything that you will need) - No partner needed – come alone or bring your friends. There’s no supplement for single bedrooms. To book your place for this weekend: Call the Arlington Hotel 01202 – 552879
