UK, WEST SUSSEX - The Practitioner Level Diploma in Sound Therapy, Lyz Cooper & The BAST Team, The University of Chichester, 11 Apr 2018

The Practitioner Level Sound Therapy Diploma will teach you the skills to become a professional sound therapist, awarding you with a Practitioner Level Diploma in Sound Therapy specialising in 3 or 4 instruments.

This qualification also enables you to gain recognition through being a member of the Therapeutic Sound Association as well as other Multi-disciplinary membership bodies.

Our method of sound therapy (known as The BAST Method) uses specific playing techniques to affect the brain and nervous system, producing a therapeutic effect for the mind, body and emotions. We also use a method of self-reflection and self-enquiry known as ‘The 5Rs’ which helps us to understand the impact that our symptoms and/or life situation is having on us and empowers us to move forward in a life-affirming and positive way.

We draw on the latest developments in sound cognition, music psychology and medical ethno-musicology to inform our work as well as our own research and development spanning 22 years. Although this is a 1-2-1 therapy course you are able to apply the techniques learned to groups as well. The combination of specific techniques and reflective enquiry (see what is sound therapy for more information on our method) enables you to work in a deep and potentially transformative way with a wide range health conditions.

Fundamental Module
Before the first 5 day intensive starts your learning will begin as we introduce some of the key concepts we will be working with on the course through the BAST Learning Zone, our easy to use interactive online platform.

Module 1 – 5 Day Intensive
11th April 2018 – 15th April 2018

This module is highly experiential with many soundbaths and sessions given to enable you feel the therapeutic benefits of sound first-hand. Drill down into the concepts of therapeutic sound and explore the principles and theories behind working with sound in a therapeutic context and have fun practicing techniques. Himalayan and crystal singing bowls, voice (toning, overtoning, mantra) drum, gong and therapeutic percussion will all be explored and the therapeutic application of these tools will be discussed to enable you to make a decision regarding which instruments to study.

Instrument Choices
After the first 5 day module you should have all of the information needed to be able to choose which instruments you would like to study in more depth (if you don’t already know before-hand). Between modules you will have coursework to enable you to study these instruments in more depth.

You will be required to select a minimum of 3 and maximum of 4 instruments to complete your qualification. Once chosen, the instrument ‘Pods’ will then be added to your individually created pathway in the BAST Learning Zone and comprise videos, articles, information, sound recordings and related research.

Module 2 – 5 Day Intensive
4th July 2018 – 8th July 2017

We meet again for a sound extravaganza! Practical skills learned through your Instrument Pods will be practised and developed over the next five days and therapeutic application discussed in depth.

Case Study Sessions
The case study sessions are a way to develop your playing and treatment techniques. A very large percentage of the clients being treated by our students give wonderful feedback and the case study period also serves to build your business whilst still training. You can take 6 – 12 months to complete this process.

Webinar Programme
During the case study process you can get support through recorded webinars and podcasts as well as information and articles on the Learning Zone to support you through your case study period as well as give you tips to help you to build a successful healthy sound business. Lyz Cooper will also hold one or two live webinar sessions during your training.

Assessment
A theory exam will be held online and at the end of the case study period you will be required to submit a video showing a practical session for assessment. On successful completion you will be awarded your Practitioner Level Diploma in Sound Therapy.
