Musical nutrition in school
It is amazing to see how music can lift and open the minds of immature 11 year old school kids. How they can let go of repeatedly arguing, questioning, interrupting and resisting both general communication and education, and just let themselves into the musical water. It is such a relief as a teacher to look into these eyes, voices and movements - and see how they relax and rejoice altogether in a harmonious, rhythmical groove, or a quiet hummed tune. No explanation is needed, why this is worth doing, it just feels good. So we just do it. And it leaves the taste for more. And what else: Cooperation is mutually functioning. Acceptance and affection is shared. Worthiness is even and obvious. In this complicated, distracted and disturbed world. Thank you, music! And then, the dessert: math and history moves so much better along with the brain after a daily musical shower. Says the pleased music-therapeutical teacher!

Im in total agreement that A=less than 440 leads to an altogether more mellifluous standard of tuning, though for slightly different reasons. But first I must comment on bodily vibrations. Human vibrations step down with increasing mass from the atom to the cell via the organs to the whole body, and in simple harmonic relationships too! (see my conference paper Tuning, Resonance and Consciousness at www.eidos-inventions.co.uk/ccms.asp?nodeid=11 ). And muscles also vibrate at different rates: 2hz is the rate of the sphincter muscle, as I recall. Cells vibrate at c.1000hz.
But to the point. All over the world, ethnic instruments of many kinds are frequently constructed on a pitch which is slightly flat of standard concert pitch Dflat. in which I will interview people in the arts, holiistic education and practices in well-being including, of course, sound therapy. As of the moment the programme with me as the interviewer will go out on Tuesays at 4pm-5pm and repeated on Sundays 3-4pm. There will also be musical interludes within the programme.
