HEALING VOICE -RESIDENTIAL WEEK INTENSIVE- April 29th - May 6th

BELTANE week in the heart of beautiful Somerset countryside-
Many people say it is the best week of their life!

Very near Glastonbury (The Mystical Centre of Britain)
In a breathtaking valley, nestling between two sacred hills.
Absolutely gourmet vegetarian food! Starts Friday Evening.
Wonderful, magical, healing and utterly life changing week.
Each week intensive has a different theme. Learning and developing the ancient shamanic practice of overtone chanting, vocal purification practices, transformative breathing, vocal yogas, sonorous meditations, sacred chants, mantras and sonic practices to transform family curses into their corresponding blessings and heal the ancestral lines. Also, journeying through the MANDALA, we experience the union of the sacred masculine and feminine, bliss and emptiness. All my Mandala ceremonies combine and contain continuous chant, spiritual practice with deep psychological work.

The MANDALA OF THE CLEAR LIGHT, CONSCIOUS DREAMING &amp

Responding to Tobias Kaye on A=432

I am in full agreement with Tobiass proposition that we should tune to an A=432. I have had my piano tuned to this pitch for some time and I am deeply satisfied with it. The tuner can do it as long as it has a 432 fork to start. It is a known fact that orchestras around the world have pushed up the pitch as high as 446 just to create a brighter sound. One presumes that the piano concertos have to conform with this state of affairs. With this tuning we have a system based on 1 or unity as the C becoming 256 can be reduced by dividing in half and getting lower and lower octaves unlike it comes to 1. Some wind players dont like tuning down to 432. Yet I have played with a clarinettist perfectly well playing on my 432 piano. Helmholtz, the 19th century physicist, in his book On the Sensations of Tone has shown that A has been as low as 390 cps.
Baroque pitch was variable but generally speaking about a semi-tone lower than today. In fact, there is a Baroque ensemble which call

Why A=432? The "Verdi Pitch"

Apparently A=432hz as a concert pitch is in tune with organic processes and brings us to more inner harmony than music set at the present international standard of A=440.
The standard was set in 1955 in spite of over 20,000 musicians petitioning the International Standards Organisation. The fact the a few American sociological institutes had related the higher pitch to crowd control and that Goebbels recommended it’s use may or may not be relevant. What is interesting is that A=432 produces middle C at 256 and lower Cs at 128, 64, and 32. going down below conscious hearing we get 16, 8, 4and 2.
Apparently the human cell vibrates at 2hz. How amazing is that? Is it a coincidence that we human beings have a bicameral mind, two lungs and a heart that beats with systole and diastole? That we have two circulations of the blood, one going to the outer worldly edge of body, muscle and skin, the other to our inner experience of the world, the air in our lungs?
If 2 is so important, if 2 cycl

Walk Through Chaos

I had a painful walk through chaos before reaching up here to you.

I found myself crying in the middle of my tune.

I fell down and stood up as many times as needed

And now I feel happy: I finally succeeded.

It was a long journey I walked through my mind

and now it is time

to give you my energy.

Let love embrace our relations.

Let us feel we may jump over the concept of nations.

Take my hand.

Let´s walk together…

For ever and ever….

Winterfaith: Its Inspiration

After literally thirty years of feeling intimidated by the landmark piano improvisations of Keith Jarrett, I reached a place where I couldnt hold myself back any longer. Since five years old, I had been extemporizing at the piano, and as life unfolded, I ended up focusing my career on composing and producing music for film and television rather than cultivating the path of improvisational piano performance. Then, one night, in the midst of a great life challenge, I was reminded that there was a different kind of altar I could pray at, an altar that could offer healing for myself - as well as for those who heard the final result of these meanderings. With the loving support of my dear friend Michael Stillwater, I tapped into the power of appreciation for the people I loved in my life as the very catalysts for creation of each piece. The result is an improvisational CD that delivers a stream of consciousness exploration using a spacious, contemplative style. At a time when the w

HELLO SOUND FORUM!

HELLO SOUND FORUM!
Some philosophical words about music and man.
I am happy and proud to present myself in this moment, being invited by my friend and colleague Andrew Hodges, whom I came to know through musical happenings and people that once led me to England.
To be personal, as far back as I can remember, music has been my best friend, or one of them, and the stars on the heaven always represented perspective insinuating stability or equilibrium, especially in critical moments of my life. 2 friends, really, that always stay, hooray!
Having worked with music in different ways for quite a while, I have found however, that music is good for being more than ’just’ a friend: it has an incredible ability to reach and influence people, across culture, age, sex, language, opinions, philosophies, religion, even diseases and mental disabilities. I therefore chose to go into therapy work.
If you don’t mean ’music of the spheres’ or ’music in nature’ (like water, wind, etc), it takes a hum

Hello friends of intentional music and sound;

In light of the dramatic re-emergence of American power politics and blame, definitions of SOUND catch my attention. The adjective, SOUND, is defined as “based on truth or right.” The noun, SOUND, is “an auditory impression or noise without meaning.” These definitions make me scratch my head and wonder what about my current relationship to sound. As societal shifts intensify, I’ve been thinking a lot about relevance and soundwork.

Set against the backdrop of sociological, economic and environmental urgencies, I find this ‘relevance’ question burning deeply within. One of the reasons I’m honored to be a featured author with Sound Travels, is the opportunity to engage in dialogue with sound and music thought-leaders outside the American purview.

As a dedicated soundworker, I now look to broader considerations around sound. As a founding member of the US-based Sound and Music Alliance, I question my colleagues about what does it mean to be a professional soundworker? Is it enough to

Lords Prayer in Aramaic

Oh Thou, from whom the breath of life comes, who fills all realms of sound, light and vibration.
May your light be experienced in my being.
Your heavenly domain approaches.
Let your will prevail in the universe just as on earth.
Give us wisdom for our daily needs, detach the fetters of faults that bind us, like we let go the guilt of others.
Let us not be lost in superficial things, let us be freed from what keeps us from our true purpose.
From you comes the all-working will, the strength to act, the song that beautifies all and renews itself from age to age.
Sealed in trust, faith and truth.

Something Amusing ...

Heres a humorous note. I dictated my article on Shostakovich via my voice recognition programme and my software thought ‘privation’ was ‘private Asian’, while Sergei Luzhkov came over as ‘surrogate loose cough’! (Editors comment: Ah well, such is the nature of sound when it meets something soft ...)

THE International Harp Therapy PREP SCHOOL is now open!

Our current 2010 students are now actively pursuing their education.
They are finding the lectures fascinating and are excited about their
improvisational harp playing progress in just two short months!
We begin the program in September of each year. You can get a jump
start and join the IHTP PREP SCHOOL. There are four main focuses of
the preparatory program:
1. To learn to play the harp and become proficient so you can enter
the program.
2. For people who are graduates of other programs who would like to
take our Experiential Specialty Module in the Spring/Summer months.
Having a mentor through the PREP SCHOOL will prepare you to enter the
ESM and get the requirements completed.
3. For people who are saving for the program, who found that they
did not have enough time to pursue the program this year or want to
have a more leisurely approach to the program.
4. Some people want to learn how to improvise, learn new repertoire,
and learn about the qualities of heali

One Year Celebration

Congratulations to the creators of Sound Travels for the anniversary of this great website. I am grateful to be a part of this sound community and look forward to more developments as the website continues to grow, along with its resonant people! I was thinking, as Andrew was asking for some reflections on the website, that it might be great to have some more sound on it. This could take the form of something fairly standard, like having audio clip samples for the CDs on sale, to having more audio content from the authors or even a facility for members.

As I am new to the site, I am still discovering what it has to offer, as there is so much great content - so if I have overlooked this, then many apologies! But yes, I think some kind of easy, user friendly app on the site which encourages audio/video content from authors and members might be cool. Lots of Rainbows, Karen.

Congratulations to Sound Travels!

Congratulations to the Sound Forum for a successful first year of providing a platform for sharing information and inspiration. Thank you!

On behalf of Hawkwood College, I‘d like to acknowledge the contribution that Forum members Stefan Cartwright ,James D’Angelo, Susan Elizabeth Hale and Tobias Kaye make to our course programme. James has been coming each year since 2002 and his courses in The Healing Power of Vocal Sound, with a firm basis in scholarship and personal practice, are always well received. Stef is continuing with his training series The School of Creative Music Making (formerly Music Another Way) in 2011 with Living Sound (April), Finding the Voice (June), Rhythms of Life (September) and Intuitive Music (October). This initiative is definitely taking root and brings a lovely quality of play and experimentation. Tobias Kaye will be offering Tree Star and Song of the Heart again in 2011, having tested the waters successfully in June this year. Susan Hale will return to
